A man living with a disability, who participated in a two-week internship program coordinated by Nuanua o le Alofa, has expressed his gratitude for the job experience.

Viiga Silipa, who is from Saleapaga and has a wife and two kids, took an internship at the Taumeasina Island Resort for two weeks and worked in the resort’s laundry services.

He said he picked up a number of skills while on the job and the experience expanded his knowledge of the workplace.

This is the second time that I have taken part in this internship program and the overall experience during the program was great. I give thanks to the Lord for the strength and happiness he has given me to work in this program,” he said.

When asked if he had any plans to now work outside of the Nuanua o le Alofa-run internship program, he said he has submitted a job application form to the Taumeasina Island Resort.

“I would love to continue working at Taumeasina Island Resort because I can further my skills and knowledge in the workplace. I have given in my job application form so that I can continue to work there so I am currently waiting for their response,” he added.

Mr Silipa also thanked the Nuanua o le Alofa Manager, Mataafa Fa’atino Utumapu for the opportunity to participate in the program as well staff.

“I would also like to thank the staff of Nuanua o le Alofa for their assistance during the two week program because they provided transportation for us. I would also like to advise people with disabilities who are unemployed, if you find an opportunity, give it all you got,” he said. “Be honest with what you do because that is the key priority of working in a workplace, prayer will also help you through your problems. There is a phrase that goes, 'opportunities don't come twice' so you should use this opportunity wisely."
