New Zealand couple, Jill Barclay and Ray Bray, usually go to Fiji for vacation.

But they have only learnt about Samoa and are now in the country to see what is on offer.

And their impressions of the country so far is one of being impressed with how Samoa continues to keep the authenticity of its traditional roots in its villages in Samoa.

“We have learned about Samoa from friends back in New Zealand,” Mr. Bray said.

When they talked to the Samoa Observer, they were out at Lalomanu to enjoy the sights and sounds of that pristine setting.

 Coming from New Zealand, the couple said they were impressed that Samoa continues to maintain its traditions and customs unlike their country where interaction with the indigenous community is becoming rare.

“That’s why we advise Samoa not to spoil the local looks and styles because that’s what attracts the tourists and that's what attracted us too,” Mrs. Barclay said.

She said in Fiji the tourists have to travel to some of the islands in order to get that cultural experience, unlike in Samoa where it was all happening at their doorstep. 

“In Fiji you would have to go to one of the islands but here you got this and it’s just beautiful. We’re loving it,” she said.

During their stay in Samoa, they have already visited the Return to Paradise Resort, To-Sua ocean trench, waterfalls as well as drove around the island.

They have a week to spend in Samoa and would love to return for a second visit.
