The Police is investigating a traffic incident where another vehicle crashed into Prime Minister Tuilaepa Dr. Sa'ilele Malielegaoi's official vehicle.

The crash occurred at Aufaga last week when the Prime Minister was on an official inspection visit.

The incident was confirmed by Police Superintendent, Soloi Iosefa, in response to questions from the Samoa Observer.

Asked whether the Prime Minister was injured, Soloi was unclear.

“To date we have not found the driver of the vehicle that crashed into the Prime Minister’s vehicle," he said. "The incident occurred in Aufaga Lepa last week."

Asked whether the other vehicle involved was impounded, Soloi said no.

“That vehicle has been turned over to the family that owns the vehicle. But the driver on the day of the incident is on the run and we are currently looking for him.

“The driver is from Lepa. The Police investigation is continuing."

Asked about the condition of the Prime Minister’s vehicle, the Police Superintendent said he was not sure.

According to other Traffic Police officers, who are not allowed to speak to the media, Prime Minister Tuilaepa was transferred to a back-up vehicle and brought to Apia.

Contacted for a comment, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ministry of Prime Minister and Cabinet (M.P.M.C.), Agafili Shem Leo, said he was in a Cabinet meeting and was unable to answer questions regarding the matter.

It was also not possible to get a comment from Prime Minister Tuilaepa.
