Mount Vaea was a favourite spot to spend Easter Monday as youth and visitors from abroad took on the challenge to go hiking.

Alamagoto village youth were also present but with the aim of keeping fit and healthy.

Youth vice president, Toetu Sooaemalelagi said the purpose of their visit was to make use of the public holiday and to have some quality time with their youth members.

“We hardly have time for each other so it’s opportunities like these that we love to use to do something special together as a youth,” he said.

A group of visitors from Sacred Heart College in Auckland, New Zealand were also at the mountain for the first time.

Group member, Susan Fuiavailiili said hiking is an exciting part of their journey around Samoa and everyone was having a good time.

“We haven’t fully been around the island yet but so far the stops we have already been to are very enjoying including the hike to Mount. Vaea and the boys are enjoying their time in Samoa,” she said.

There were many other visitors and local people seen enjoying their time during the hike like Apaula Leitu and her family.

“We are proud that we get to spend our time here at the mountain because as a family, we barely have time for one another because we’re always busy here and there for work and school, but thanks to public holidays we get to enjoy once again,” Ms. Leitu said.
