A visitor to Samoa has given the new Faleolo International Airport a big tick of approval describing it as one of the best in the Pacific.

Atalay, who is from New Zealand, is in the country for work.

His first impression when he arrived at the Faleolo Airport is that it was big and cool.

“We have been to all the airports around the islands and we think the Samoan Airport is quite big and cool,” he said.

“It’s nice that it’s open and it’s beautiful.”

First impressions, he reminded, always shape memories and what is to follow.

Which is precisely what has happened.

Atalay and a colleague are staying at Taumesina Island Resort.

Asked for his thoughts on Samoa as a tourism destination, he said he is impressed.

“Not so many tourists and people around here. It’s very quiet but also very nice that there’s not much going on around here,” he said.

This is not the first time Atalay has been to Samoa.

But every visit brings him closer and closer to Samoa. He says everytime he is learning about the culture and the people.

“To me the Samoan culture is just so nice, it’s very open and very friendly and I’ve learnt that everyone’s a friend.”

Atalay has also tried out the local food, pointing to the oka as his favourite dish. He said the oka is best taken after a few cold Taula beers.

“I love Taula more,” he said.

At the end, Atalay said he is grateful to have been in Samoa. He said he will be happy to spread the word about Samoa and what it has to offer
