While the mothers of Samoa are being spoiled  today, one elderly mother will be spending the day with her friends at the Home of the Elderly at Mapuifagalele.

Telesia Tele’a, 83, of Leauva’a has been living at the Home for 21 years now.

“My children did not put me here,” she said. “My sister did because I was sick and she couldn’t look after me so she told me that I will be coming here to stay.

“I’m happy to stay here so that I won’t be a burden to my children and my family; the sisters here really look after us well.

“It’s nice here, it’s stress free, we eat all the time and most of all we play bingo every weekend and these are the things that I really enjoy.”

Asked if she misses her home and family, Telesia said she does.

“I do miss home especially my children and my grandchildren. I want to be there for them and see them grow up,” said Telesia. “My children do come visit but I get very sad when I say goodbye to them but I know that this is best for them so I won’t be a burden to them.”

As for what she wants for mothers day, she said her prayer is that her children obey God.

“That is the only present I want is to see my children fear God and walk in His ways,” she said.

“That is the most precious gift that I will cherish forever is when I see my children walk in the ways of God.

“I don’t want any material things just that because I know when I leave this earth I am sure that they are being looked after and that God has blessed them.”
