Beaten student evacuated to N.Z.
A Fijian student who was beaten by a group of youths in front of a local nightclub has been flown to New Zealand in an effort to save his life.
The beating happened two weeks ago and since then A.P.T.C student, Allan Nokunokuivalu, has been in a critical condition at the Moto’otua Hospital.
The decision was made to fly him to New Zealand in an effort to save his life.
“The latest news from Auckland is that he’s still fighting for his life,” an official at the hospital said yesterday.
“He was in a very serious condition when he was here. He suffered serious brain injuries and that could well be life threatening.”
According to the official, the student showed little or no improvement at all when he was in Samoa. That is why the decision was made to take him to New Zealand.
“From the reports we’ve received, there’s no improvement on his injuries so far and he’s still in serious condition.”
Sources told the Samoa Observer that the student was involved in a fight with local youths on Beach Road after a night out.
The Samoa Observer understands that the student had only been in Samoa for three weeks.
It was not possible to get a comment from the Police yesterday.
