Samoa is set to join the world to commemorate the annual “Girls in I.C.T. Day” on Thursday 27 April 2017.

The local celebration will be coordinated by the International Telecommunications Union (I.T.U.) in collaboration with the Office of the Regulator (O.O.T.R.).

This initiative endorsed by all I.T.U. member states aims to create a global environment that empowers and encourages girls and young women to consider careers in the growing field of information and communications technology (I.C.T.).

O.O.T.R. believes that girls and young women have the potential to become I.C.T. leaders and innovators.

To celebrate, O.O.T.R. in collaboration with its sponsors will hold a half-day event for girls from secondary schools/colleges around the country on Thursday, 27 April 2017.

The winners for the O.O.T.R.’s short video clip competition will be announced on the day. There will also be other opportunities on the day for special prizes to be won.

The Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Afamasaga Rico Tupa’i, is scheduled to deliver the keynote address.
