Hearing of cases adjourned

A legal meeting happening in Apia this week resulted in the hearing of several cases being adjourned on Tuesday.

At the District Court Judge Vaepule Vaemoa Va’ai was among judges who attended the Pacific Islands Law Officers Network (P.I.L.O.N) meeting opened by Prime Minister, Tuilaepa Sa’ilele Malielegaoi.

In Court, Registrar Va’aiga Teo announced that matters scheduled for Tuesday had been adjourned.

“The Judge has set the adjournment dates for the cases as he is attending another unexpected matter,” said Ms. Teo.

One of the matters adjourned was the hearing of charges against election candidate, Tuala Iosefo Ponifasio.

Tuala faces nine charges of bribery and treating filed by several constituents of Gagaemauga No. 1.

Ms. Teo informed the parties involved that the matter will be re-mentioned on 10 May 2016.

However, Tuala said he won’t be in jurisdiction next week until 15 May 2016.

The Registrar then told Tuala and the lawyer for the complainants that the dates have been set by the Judge but she will inform them of any changes after.
