A devoted, young Samoan entrepreneur is on the rise. 

Therese Rivers shares with Business team her story as one of the new upcoming entrepreneurs in Samoa. 

The 21-year-old from Vaoala is the fifth child of Matile and Brent Rivers who run Apia Pharmacy at Savalalo.

Ms. Rivers graduated from Faatuatua Christian College in 2013 then moved to New Zealand in 2015 where she attended Auckland Girls Grammar for a year and then moved back to Samoa. 

She completed her foundation courses at the University of the South Pacific, Alafua Campus. 

Another achievement she acquired was a Certificate in a Facilitating Course and completion in a course for Digital Filmmaking from the British Council New Zealand.

It is through these accomplishments that paved way for her business. 

“I am currently self-employed at my own established, freelance marketing agency named Login Ltd, but I also work for my family business in Apia Pharmacy."

“It’s a process gaining website traffic on all social media platforms. Along with providing assistance for those who do not know how to engage with their audiences via social media on Facebook, instagram, twitter, pintrest, YouTube, etc." 

“Launching Login Ltd landed me an opportunity to travel to Fiji to attend a Film Making Master Class in April and then later a chance to participate in the Youth Co:Lab here in Apia,” she said. 

According to Ms. Rivers, her services are cheap and will not break the bank, in other words, she charges an amount how-ever the client feels worth, and can negotiate if the client feels uncomfortable with prices. 

The significant role this company plays in addressing the needs of its customers is generating fresh marketing techniques online. 

She was also asked on a particular problem that her business tackles and its online engagement with young and old audiences, which brings to light issues where necessary. 

The young, committed business owner is still growing and taking everything a step at a time, so in times of difficulties, she seeks assistance from her parents, sisters and when they are not around, she prays. 

“A current difficulty I am facing is the need of consistent number of clients in order to be sustainable."

“This year, it was very humbling to have been selected as a participant in Samoa’s first Youth Co:Lab."

“I learnt from other very passionate entrepreneurs, networked, made friends and developed new and innovated ideas."

“It was tough and very nerve racking pitching an idea within five minutes to a panel of judges, but also heaps of fun. I gained contacts, advice, friends, experience throughout this workshop,” she stated. 

She is currently aiming towards a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (Marketing Degree), which will acquire more time to achieve, but she is certain she will execute it in due time.

“My future goal other than my studies is being able to buy my parents a trip or vacation somewhere breathtaking,” said Ms. Rivers. 

When she is not busy with work, her favorite hobbies are netball and taking walks on the seawall. 

Lastly, she advises other young entrepreneurs who are hesitant to take the first steps to start that if she didn't take that leap of faith in launching Login Ltd online, she would not have been able to attend or be a part of such amazing opportunities. 

“With that being said, put your trust in God; cast your troubles, worries and doubts unto him. He will steer you right through them,” she added.
