My family is so worth it

Hana Fa’afeuu, 27, from the village of Faleasiu is a hard working mother whose only motivation is to do her part in the family.

When approached at her small road-side market stall, Hana expressed how hard she works for her family.

“We love to do this because it really helps with earning money to take care of the family, especially the children,” she told the Village Voice.

“The cost of living is getting a bit expensive nowadays. Even though the cost of living is expensive our country does not have poverty at all.

“I know for a fact that there isn’t poverty because we can still get money and things with the little that we make. Hard work is the key. Samoa isn’t a poor nation.”

Hana says that her day doesn’t really consist of much other than the usual work of a mother.

“My daily activity is very simple,” she said.

“I cook food for the children, and then prepare for the stall. There’s nothing special about my daily chores, it’s just the usual things every mother does.

“We don’t even do this little stall every day.”

According to Hana, her family is worth every effort she puts in.

“We haven’t been making money like this for long,” she said.

“The money we make here really helps the family out and we know that if we don’t do this then we won’t have any sugar.

“Life may be hard at times but there will only be issues with families if they are lazy. There is no one else to blame than your own selves if there are problems in your family.”

Even with a few employed family members, Hana says she still tries to do her part. “If you don’t work hard then you won’t get anything in life,” she said.

“We have family members who are employed at Yazaki but I still do this to help make ends meet. It’s a good way to make fast money.

“We have cultural activities (fa’alavelave) a lot so I just want to do my part with our families contribution.”
