Shared work - that’s the spirit behind the village of Le’auva’a when they started to look into beautifying their village by lighting the roadside.

The official opening of the completed project last Saturday is the beginning of another new chapter of the village council who are  looking into more ways to develop their children and youths so that they can become better leaders of tomorrow.

The lights start from the beginning of the village and continue along both sides of the road to the end.

“We’re pushing education towards our children who have dropped out of school to try and work in farming in terms of fishing, health and much more,” said matai, Tuala Oli Ah Him.

“There’s always hope to develop them for they’re the future of our village and the whole country in the next 10 to 20 years.

“Not only that but for everyone gets healthier and it reduces high blood pressure and try so we will have a prosperous village.

“This is all part of training that we’re looking at in developing our people.

Tuala said that the opening of the new project will help by attracting many tourists to Samoa.

“The project as you knows - the government is pushing to upgrade and beautify villages to attract tourists to Samoa.

“That’s why we decided to put our heads together and implement this project to upgrade our village and to be at the front and become a leading example for other villages to follow.

“We’re using electricity power as we all know that solar lights are very expansive, we cannot afford solar this time.

“So hopefully one day we can replace the electricity with solar power.

Tuala added that the whole village has contributed since the project was first started.

“Working together made this project  easier, and that’s been the driving force behind the work that we did in the past months.

“It’s all about unity.

“All the families are offering to pay whatever costs they can afford to keep this going every day ...because we’re still using the electric power t.

“This is very pleasant to hear.

According to Oli, the village of Le’auva’a is looking at possible ways to use solar lights soon.

“Now you notice at night time, no more traffic accidents on the main road because the lights help the many drivers who are driving those vehicles... everything here is safe.

“No more trouble.”
