$1.2million boost from China for health services

The Tupua Tamasese Meaole Hospital is a lot better equipped today. 

In fact it is $1.2million tala better off after the donation of much-needed medical equipment from China yesterday.

The portable X-ray machine, one color full digital ultrasonic diagnostic apparatus and one batch of E.N.T. (Ear, Nose & Throat) diagnose and treatment equipment is courtesy of the Huizhou Central People’s Hospital, Guangdong.

The equipment is part of the Memorandum of Understanding signed by Minister of Health, Tuitama Dr. Talalelei Tuitama and Ambassador of China, Wang Xuefeng.

Another part of the M.O.U. is the exchange of medical and technical staff between the two hospitals. 

“To maximize the use of these medical equipments we have offered training courses to four doctors from the Samoan hospital,” says the Managing Director of Foreign Affairs Bureau of Huizhou Municipality, Li Xun.

He was referring to the four doctors that visited Huizhou to be trained on how to use the equipment.

The handover letters for the equipment was signed by Leituala Dr. Ben Matalavea, Manager of Tupua Tamasese Hospital and Mr. Xun.

General Manager for National Health Services; Palanitina Tupumatagi Toelupe, acknowledged China’s donation on behalf of the government of Samoa.
