The problem is transport

The need to develop your home  is one thing, having no job or money to make it happen, is another.

That’s the opinion of Va’afai Tulima from Ta’elefaga.

Aged 43, the father of four children admits that life is really difficult for them.

Va’afai said he’s currently working - planting and developing ava Samoa and that’s how they make money.

Even though he has an income from selling the ava, Va’afai has always dreamt of getting an actual job.

“I’ve been wanting to find work in Apia but thinking about the long distance from here to there, it’s something that I need to figure out.”

“Another issue is my wife needs taking care of our children, so I always have to be close to home.”

“Developing the ava Samoa is not a bad source of income but the fact is that it’s just me in the family who is currently working on that, so it’s a slow process.”

“My family has so many needs. We’d like to develop our home and get everything that we need for survival.”

“Sometimes we don’t have enough money and I end up asking my father for help and I don’t like to do that, because he’s my father and he’s getting old.”

“I’m supposed to be the one that he depends on, not the other way around.”

“Nowadays, if you don’t have a good job, you have nothing.”

“Some families are lucky to have so many family members overseas to give them the help they need when they need it, but unfortunately that’s not the case for me.”

“You know I need a job but at the same time, I need to figure out my situation once I get one.”

“In considering how far I live from Apia, the situation will either be me working just to pay my fare from here to work and then back home again, or me being late to work most of the time because I cannot find transport to work.”.

“You see these are the things I need to work out.”

“For someone like me, it all depends on the money, the transportation, but it doesn’t mean I’m not desperate for a job because I really need one.”

“I just need to have a plan ready when I find a job.”
