Meet Tumanu Faitua, of Tuana’i.

The 68-year-old still enjoys working in his plantation.

The Village Voice met up with Tumanu yesterday. He said he doesn’t have problems with electricity and water.

But he is worried about the young people.

“The only issue that I have is that of the youth disturbing the peace around the village as well as causing too much trouble like within the village,” he said.

“They walk around the road blasting loud music from their speakers and sometimes they just don’t even care about the old people in the village.”

Tumanu thinks the reason behind this issue is because of lack communication and bonding between parents, families and youths.

“Most parents have stopped beating up their kids and disciplining them, and I think that’s one part these things are happening”.

“Another reason of these poor actions by the youths of today is the easy access they have with smart phones and the new technology”.

Tumanu thinks that some youth of today have no respect for their elders and it has made our country vulnerable to violence.

“The reason why these youths are doing these silly behaviors is because they have no respect for their elders, and that is why they continue to do this to others. I have also seen lot of youths nowadays having drink ups around the village area and always ended up with violence.”

Tumanu’s worry comes in because the youth are the leaders for tomorrow but seeing this kind of behavior around the villages worries him a lot.

“I just hope that they realize how hard life is being and understands that they are the future of our country”.

Tumanu also added that families and village council should work together to minimize this issue. He also believed that Samoa is a Christianity state but the things are happening is just unbelieveable.
