Hard work pays off for local duo

The hard work of two local Rugby League referees, Folau Iosua and Lui Suafoa Leautuli, has paid off.

The duo have completed the Asia Pacific Confederation Level 1 referees Course and their success has been recognised by the Rugby League International Federation.

Folau and Lui were among the participants of a course provided by Barry Rutle and Peter Corcoran last week.

The course was based on certain criteria including fitness, technical and mental tests. There was also practical work.

 Barry Rutle, Referees Trainer, assessed Folau and Lui’s performance during a tournament last week and he concluded that the two have definitely met the criteria’s in order to be accredited.

 Peter Corcoran, Director of Education and Training International Consultancy, congratulated the two.

The President of Rugby League Samoa, Tagaloa Fa’afouina Su’a, is proud of what the local referees have achieved. He said the training is part of ongoing efforts up skill officials to take the development of rugby league in Samoa to another level.

 “The Education and Training is part of the Asia Pacific Rugby League Confederation (A.P.R.L.C.) development to up skill officials both coaches and referees in order to grow the game and ensure the game is well controlled by all parties involved (including players, spectators, coaches and league community). The hope is for the accredited trainers to cascade that knowledge to other team officials.”

On Monday, members of Rugby League Samoa Executive together with Course Providers from Australia hosted an accreditation ceremony at Scalini Restaurant where Folau and Lui were congratulated.
