Important role of fathers highlighted
The roles of fathers are significant for the development of communities.
This was highlighted at the Father’s Day symposium hosted by the Ministry of Women, Community and Social Development (M.W.C.S.D.) at their headquarters yesterday.
More than 200 men and women from Upolu and Savaii participated in the event.
“It looked at how communities come together to ensure all people are well looked after, well developed, and participation is key to these developments,” M.W.C.S.D. Assistant C.E.O. for Governance, Latu Foti Afioga said.
“The whole purpose of this process is for the whole community to know the importance of working together to develop their communities, work together with the Government and partners, but it all comes down to fathers who are the heads of families and also they are lead decision makers in villages and families, which is why this symposium serves as a reminder of how significant their contributions and roles in developing communities.”
Latu said was successful because the participants gained great knowledge and understanding from different perceptions.
“The Government greatly depends on the people to initiate developments that fit in their communities. The role of the Government is to support and find funds.
“Some of the concerns stated by some members of the public were the gaps between people and Government. It is in reference to their numerous unanswered proposals presented to the Government with no successes of responses.
“But from a Government’s perspective, there is still work underway on finding the funds to address these proposals.”
