Technology can help Samoa

Technology can boost the development of Samoa.

Metzler Aniseko of Tuana’i says this is particularly true in the area of education.

“We all know that internet helps education in many ways, including making education more accessible to many people,” he told the Village Voice.

The 33-year-old says accessing information has never been easier.

“There are pros and cons of the internet but looking at the effect of the internet on education nowadays I think it’s positive for us,” he said.

“I think with the shortage of teachers in many schools, technology and fast internet allows students to learn from online tutorials especially visual lessons from other countries.”

“We all know that technology is not only for school but the workplace as well.”

“The mobile phones, fax machines, live videoconferencing equipment and computers has improved communication in so many ways.”

But he wants the government to monitor internet properly.

“The government should look at ways to monitor the use of internet in the country especially some use it to create more and more crime,” he said.

“That’s not the way it should be, and I think reinforcing laws to monitor internet wisely is a must.”

He urges parents to monitor their children whenever they use internet.

“We parents are responsible for everything, and that’s our duty - is to look after our children.”

“We are all Samoans, if us parents are responsible for educating and disciplining our children, everything will work out well.”

“It is a parent’s duty to teach their children responsible behaviour and must see that a child knows right from wrong.”
