The youth of today are the leaders of tomorrow.

With that in mind, Leadership Samoa has partnered with a new initiative titled Youth LEAD aimed at helping young people to reach their goals.  

The initiative was formulated by four driven youth advocates who felt there was gap for young people to enhance and exercise their leadership skills. 

What started out as a dream back in 2015 came into fruition and was officially launched last yesterday.   

Radeana Solomona, Jordanna Mareko, Taimalelagi Ramona Tugaga and Lagipoiva Cherelle Jackson, have been driving the initiative.

They each have an extensive history of working with the youth.  

 The Chairman of Leadership Samoa, Peseta Dr. Desmond Lee Hang, is excited to partner with YouthLEAD.  

“We saw this opportunity to roll out our programmes for youth leadership development,” he said. 

 “This is a timely event for us and we are grateful for Y.W.V.A, Lagipoiva and other youth groups who have approached us and we look forward for more great things to come.”

Lagipoiva, a co-convener of YouthLEAD, the initiative fills a gap. 

“The Samoa Youth initiative is the result of a few young people who felt there was a gap for young people accessing trainings and building their owns skills to build leaders,” she said. 

“We got together and decided that the best platform for young people to become leaders and to learn leadership is through leadership Samoa because they have the technical expertise, knowledge people and resources to support people becoming leaders.”

Now that YouthLEAD is housed as part of Leadership Samoa, the initiative is hoping to bring young, driven, like-minded people who wish to build their leaderships skills through training and opportunities.   

YouthLEAD’s founding members and organizations include:  Young Women’s Christian Association, 350.org youth advocated, Matavai Youth Group, Samoa Family Health Association youth Ambassadors, N.O.L.A. youth ambassadors and individual youth advocates and ten other national youth groups.
