Samoan gymnast Francis Faranisisi is one of the new main attractions at this year’s magic circus of Samoa to begin next week Thursday.

Mr. Faranisisi, who has families in Upolu and Savai’i, has been practicing the stripes for two years and has been part of the circus for seven years.

Mr. Francis, 26, trains every day and he also does trapeze and handstands.

He said when he does the stripes, he feels free.

“I feel like a man when the people applaud you, it is incredible,” he said in an interview with the Sunday Samoan.

He said he has a two-year-old daughter and children are his greatest motivation.

American Diane Falk, who specializes in swallowing swords, said the act by the Samoan is stunning.

“To me the act has just an organic raw quality of rope, which makes it more exciting. It is in a way so simple just a rope and a man doing amazing things. His facial expressions are incredible. The contrast, the red fabric comes down, which is absolutely stunning and makes the difference.”

The performances at the circus will run from August 9 to September 9 and will run for over two hours, featuring 25 performers from around the world.
