Election winners face anxious wait

The first unofficial count might be over but for a couple of Members of Parliament, they face an anxious wait in the next 48 hours.

It’s only on Monday when they will know whether their seats are truly secured after pulling through by a few votes on Friday night.

The members include Lealailepule Rimoni Aiafi and Sili Epa Tuioti.

At Faleata West, Lealailpule secured a narrow victory over Ale Vena.

Leala collected 857 votes while Ale polled 853. The third candidate, Ulu Bismark Crawley won 836 votes while Panoa Moala collected 441 votes.

With four votes separating Leala and Ale, both men will hope the special votes go in their favour.

At Fa’asaleleaga No. 1 East, Sili narrowly defeated Pauli Ivan Williams, also by four votes. Sili polled 475 to Pauli’s 471.

The Office of the Electoral Commissioner confirmed yesterday that the final count will be on Monday where the special votes will likely cement or change the result.
