Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sa’ilele Malielegaoi is expected to return home this Sunday. 

This was confirmed by Acting Prime Minister, Papali’i Niko Lee Hang, who spoke briefly about the status of the Prime Minister’s health yesterday.  

“The Prime Minister is recovering well and he is scheduled to return this Sunday,” he told the Samoa Observer.

Two weeks ago, Prime Minister Tuilaepa was flown to New Zealand after being admitted into the Intensive Care Unit at the Moto’otua Hospital.

Prior to departing, he moved to assuage fears in Samoa and from around the world about his health. 

The government has kept his medical condition under wraps.

It could not be confirmed whether Prime Minister Tuilaepa’s absence had anything to do with the cancellation of a Parliament session, which had been scheduled to start on Tuesday.

The cancellation was confirmed in a public notice signed by the Head of State, His Highness Tuimaleaali’ifano Va’aletoa Sualauvi II. The notice said the session has been postponed until further notice.

Attempts to get a comment from the Legislative Assembly’s Media Officer were unsuccessful.
