The writing was already on the wall for the Tautua Samoa Party yesterday even before the votes were counted.

That’s if you were in Savai’i where the majority of voters the Samoa Observer spoke with supported Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sa’ilele Malielegaoi and his Human Rights Protection Party.

At Asau, Masoe Lima said the H.R.P.P has done enough for the country to secure another five years at power.

“They have done a lot for Samoa,” he said. “A few years ago, many people were against the road switch but look at Samoa now. Just about everybody has a car and that’s a great thing. That’s a sign of good developments.”

Masoe voted for Lopaoo Natanielu Mua. He said the village was backing Lopaoo although Tufuga Gafoaleata Faitua is also from the village.

At Auala village, Tapumanaia Sakaio, said he supports the H.R.P.P because they are progressive in their thinking. Having voted for Paialii Mao II Ropati, an H.R.P.P candidate, he said no one would support the opposition because they don’t have any money.

“The government gets things done,” he said. As for Vaisigano No. 1, whoever wins, he will support.

“This is a game where the best man wins. Whoever that person is from our district, we will support them.

Tapumanaia said a lot has changed in terms of candidates. In the past, candidates had to get the endorsement from the village councils but that’s not the case anymore.

“I guess we are moving towards the modern times where people exercise their human rights.”

Speaking of human rights, Sauila Tanielu, a voter at Fa’asaleleaga No. 2, said the government has done a lot for Samoa.  “We don’t know what another government would bring,” he said. “The H.R.P.P is not perfect but at least we get to see and live what H.R.P.P can offer for Samoa.”

Nu’u Faitala of Faasaleleaga No.1 agrees. “I’m voting for the H.R.P.P because that’s how things can be done in our village. It is only the government that can do that.”
