Everyone needs an inspiration in life.

For Carla Ma’amu Hunt, she didn’t have to look far.

The dux of St. Mary’s Primary School in 2017 said she was motivated by her brother, Frankie.

“Looking at my brother and the current situation he is in pushed me to do better every day,” she said.

“He is sick, he cannot walk, but I am fortunate enough to walk and to go places.

“I love my brother, he is the reason I am here today.

“Regardless of not being able to walk, I would always spot him out in the crowd, he will always come to my prize giving to cheer for me.”

Carla was the Head Girl.

“I only have one sibling and that is Frankie. He is still so young and I know he is not like other kids. I know my brother would depend on me being the eldest to take care of him,” she added.”

To be a doctor is what the 13-year-old is aiming for so she can help her brother.

“I am keen on becoming a doctor so I can research and look for possible ways to help my brother walk again.

“I am looking for a miracle. With this career, I know I will be able to attend to the people within my family when they get sick.”

Carla is grateful to God for her achievement.

“I know that if it weren’t for God I wouldn’t have been able to make it. I am honoured and grateful for everything. There were so many challenges and temptations along the way by the enemy, but it’s because of him I had managed to pull through with my goals and dreams.”

She understands that it was also her family that played a huge role in her success so far.

Carla also feels indebted towards her parents and all the sacrifices that they have made for her.

“Today is a day to show my parents that all their sweat and hard work has paid off. This is me telling them how blessed I am to have them and I will never be able to pay them back for what they have done.”

She topped Visual Arts, Computers, Samoan Language, Music and Mathematics.

St Mary’s College that is located at Vaimoso is going to be the next step that Carla will be taking next year.

“I will be attending St Marys College next year; I don’t want to go to any government school because I grew up being taught by nuns and by the church.”

She is from the villages of Leauva’a, Vaitoloa, Falelima, Falealupo and Satoaleapai.

Her father, Malopaia Kalolo Hunt, works at ASCO Motors and her mother is a secretary at St Mary’s Primary School.

According to Malopaia, he is very proud of the young woman that Carla has become and also with the career path that she plans to pursue.

“I feel very proud of her. She wants to become a doctor. Carla has decided to choose this career of becoming a doctor due to her brother’s situation that he is in. I really appreciate her effort.”
