Ava ceremony for Minister

The Ministry of Education, Sports and Culture welcomed their new Minister, Loau Keneti Sio and his Associate Minister, Ala’iasa Sepulona Moananu, during a in a traditional ava ceremony on Friday.

The ceremony was held amidst fears about Cyclone Amos.

Despite this though, Loau used the opportunity lay down the platform for the Ministry’s work in the next five years.

 “This ministry plays an important role in the development of this country,” he said.

“Why? Because this is the root and the solid foundation upon which development is based. Education is important to everyone in this country and that’s why we must stand and work together.”

Loau encouraged his staff members to work hard, stay committed and value the gifts and callings they all have.

 “Whenever a conflict or problem arises, my door is open,” he said. “I need your advice on what’s good and what’s bad for the betterment of the ministry and the whole country,

“I am ready to work with you in the next five years and May the Lord guide and bless us all today.” Representative from the ministry, Mata’afa Autagavaia Elia thanked Loau and Ala’iasa for making their time to meet with the Ministry.

A luncheon followed the ava ceremony.

Loau i is 51 years old. He is married to Malama Sio and they have four children. He is a native of Faleula where he has lived his whole life.

Loau was also an old student of Faleula Primary School and Samoa College. 

After graduating from Samoa College, he became a Bank Officer for some time before moving on to pursue his dream of becoming a successful farmer and fisherman. He is a member of the famous Manu Samoa team which placed Samoan rugby on the map.
