The demolition of the 41-year-old church building of the Congregational Christian Church of Samoa at Salesatele has started.

It follows a final service in the building on Sunday, attended by families and friends.

Reverend Pu’a Aumau told Samoa Observer that the church was formed in 1831 by a Missionary named Lalolagi.

“This is the only church in the village and looking back, we’re very grateful to God for our ancestors and their hard work in serving the Almighty God through this church,” he said.

“It’s been years since the church has served the village.

The church building was built in 1975.

“It was this year that we’ve decided to build another church building because of the bad condition of the building after many natural disasters,” he said.

“All the Glory to God for his Loving Arm that lead us this far, without Him, we wouldn’t be here today and with Him nothing is impossible. Rev. Aumua and wife, Fa’alagolago are the fourteenth pastors to have served in the congregation since the church was first started.

The construction work for the new church building is expected to begin January next year.
