Samoa pushes for Super rugby inclusion during P.M’s New Zealand visit 

Cabinet has approved the report on the Prime Minister’s trip to New Zealand on 16 June 2017. The trip included meetings with the Rugby New Zealand; the Manukau Institute of Technology and the launching of the Manu Samoa Old Boys Association.

The meeting with the New Zealand Rugby Union was attended by New Zealand’s Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Cherry Brownlie and former Minister Murray Mcully. 

Representatives of the organisation for the South Africa, New Zealand, Australia and Argentina Rugby unions (SANZAR) were also present as well as representatives of the Fijian and Tongan Rugby Unions.

The meeting focused on the inclusion of a combined Pacific Team in the Super Rugby tournament.

The meeting by the Prime Minister and the Manukau Institute of Technology focused on reviewing and initiating networks with the Government of Samoa through education.

The Prime Minister also launched the Manu Samoa Old Boys Association (M.S.O.B.A). Members of this association will assist with the selection of rugby players for the Manu Samoa. The Prime Minister also challenged the M.S.O.B.A to network with former All Blacks who are Samoans to reaffirm opportunities for Samoan players in the team.

 

 

Samoa at Global Environment Facility Expanded 

Constituency meeting

A delegation from Samoa will take part in the Global Environment Facility Expanded Constituency Meeting in Tonga on 24 - 28 July 2017.

The meeting will focus on:

•  Discussions on G.E.F’s assistance and the progress of projects funded by this organisation;

•  Discussion on G.E.F7 or the funds and projects for the next phase;

•  Samoa’s participation to follow up on projects funded by G.E.F for the Ministry of Environment, EPC and Samoa’s Trust Estate Corporation.

•  Discussion on the implementation and progress of projects funded by the G.E.F;

•  Discussion on Ridge to Reef programme;

•  G.E.F - Small Grants Programme;

•  Promote and share knowledge and experiences on the progress of different projects to align with set guidelines.

Samoa’s delegation include the C.E.O for the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, Ulu Bismark Crawley; A.C.E.O for GEF in Samoa, Annie Rasmussen; A.C.E for Land Management Division, Felisita Tala Heather and Safuta Toelau Iulioo.

 

Report on the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank

Cabinet has approved the report on the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (A.I.I.B.) meeting in South Korea on 16 - 18 June 2017.

The theme of the meeting focused on sustainable infrastructure in Asia and A.I.I.B. members.

The meeting affirmed the membership for Samoa in the A.I.I.B. before the end of December 2017. The Government will also have to initiate plans for infrastructures that could possibly be funded by the A.I.I.B. according to the set requirements.

The A.I.I.B.’s next meeting will be held in Mumbai, India on 25 - 26 June 2018.
