Manu Samoa Sevens player Della Neli is facing sex charges.

He was arrested on Saturday in relation to allegations of a sexual nature involving a female from England who was working as a volunteer at the Samoa Rugby Union (S.R.U.)

Deputy Registrar Ve'atauia Fa’atasi Puleiata placed the defendant in Police custody and is being held at the Tafa’igata Prison to await his appearance in the Supreme Court on October 29, 2018.

He is facing one count of attempted sexual violation and one charge of assault with intent to commit sexual violation.

According to the charge sheet, the alleged incident occurred on October 7, 2018.

The complainant, who is 20 years old, lodged her complaint with the Police on the day in question.

It was alleged that the volunteer was at a bar with friends when Manu Samoa players arrived.

According to the charge sheet, the volunteer knew them as they worked together.

The players, along with the victim, went to another bar after that and the victim became tired then she asked to go home.

“The victim got out of the taxi when they arrived and was shocked when the said suspect escorted her into her house, but she refused his assistance,” the charge sheet reads.

“Della was forcing his way in her room and started to kiss her. It’s alleged the victim pushed him away and however he touched her in a sexual manner."

“The victim was taken to the hospital for medical check-up,” stated the police charge sheet.

Neli was named in the training squad for the 2018/2019 World Rugby Sevens Series, which kicks off with the Dubai Sevens at the end of this month.
