A weekend of vehicle accidents

Two vehicle accidents took place over the weekend in different parts of Apia.

A white Toyota Hilux Surf crashed into a power pole opposite Naydith Events Hirage on Salato Street at Vaitele last Friday afternoon.

The vehicle bonnet and engine were smashed on impact, which led to the authorities cutting off electricity to the area that afternoon. The police and Electric Power Corporation staff were on the scene when Samoa Observer arrived.

Eyewitnesses told this newspaper that the driver was lucky to be alive as he was saved by the vehicle’s airbags. They said they were also shocked to see the power pole break in half and it was a relief no lives were lost.

The second vehicle crash occurred early yesterday morning when a green Daihatsu Terios flipping over to the right side, just in front of the four corner traffic lights at Lepea.

Motorists were forced to stop as the vehicle – which laid on its side – was in the middle of the road.
