Samoa is founded on God.

And that’s why despite all the problems, life remains okay.

So says Vini Tapuvae of Fasito’o-uta.

“Apart from all the different problems happening in our country these days, we are still living in peace and our faith is helping us get through it,” he said.

Vini is a preschool teacher who loves to work with old people.

His life is dedicated to serving the church Minister in their village.

“It has been 17 years since I’ve been living here with our church Minister,” he said. “And it’s going on to 12 years since I have been a preschool teacher.”

“It’s a good journey because it involves both spiritual and worldly experiences.  And it’s a blessing.”

The 50-year-old man said the gift of life that Samoa has is a blessing.

“I thank God I was born into this country because despite all the difficulties, the different issues happening around, the high cost of living, we are still living in harmony and peace.

“Many other countries cannot say the same.”

The helpful nature of people is also great.

“In Samoa, people always help each other out.

“If you need something you can get it from your neighbor. Our country is a free country.”

The things that Vini embraces in Samoa is the culture, customs and traditions. These are the things that shape the good image of the country.

“Our culture is our image and for that reason we are who we are today because of that,” he said.

“The most   important thing I know about our culture is the respect that we people have for one another.

“Respecting our elders and knowing where you stand, act accordingly to your position in our society.”

“These are the few important things I like about our Samoan way…”

“I have no issues regarding the social and economic matters because that is the government part, even if we voice our concerns, nothing will be done to it.”
