Samoa a traveller’s dream

Originally from California, master electrician Don Luce, aged 63, is spending a relaxing ten-week break with his friends in Samoa.

He’s met many people during his stay and says that this is what he loves most about the island.

“My favourite part is the variety of people that you meet,” he said.

Don, with an ice-cold beer in hand, surrounded by both new and old friends, is in his element.

“The culture is completely different here,” he said, adding that his life back in California, America was plagued with worry, as he struggled to keep up with the “200mph pace of life back home”. Enjoying Samoa’s tranquil tone, Don is considering making the move permanent.

“I’m thinking about coming over here just for the freedom,” he explains.

Don is a well-informed Pacific traveller, having spent four years working in Pago-Pago, American Samoa.

“It doesn’t even compare to here,” he remarked on the cleanliness of this island and how it’s a big part of the enjoyable atmosphere.

He praised the government for promoting environmentalism and placing it high on the agenda in Samoan politics.

Don gathers his friendly weekly to make the trip down to Lalomanu on the South Coast, home to arguably the most beautiful beaches on the island.

“I just say to my friends, you need to get into the Ocean.” The feeling of being completely stress-free and surrounded by both beauty and great friends is so rare and must be appreciated; words will never do such a place justice.

Lalomanu is at the top of the list for anyone that visits the island.

Access to local and fresh seafood throughout the island is another aspect that Don is enjoying.

“I love the fish, you just cannot get anything like it back in California.”

Samoa’s seashores are home to a number of species of fish, many of which come from the water to the table in a matter of just hours.

Don would highly recommend a visit to Samoa for its social atmosphere.

“You never know who you will meet!”
