Love was in the air last Saturday at Vaoala. It was when Frederick Pele and Taulapapa Marie tied the knot before their families and friends.

Their special day began with a mass at the Shrine of the Three Hearts at Vaoala.

Archbishop Alapati Mataeliga conducted the service. He reminded that “what God has joined together, no man can separate.”

Mr. and Mrs. Pele have been known each other for 14 years. The groom is 36-years-old. He is the fourth child of Fred and Ingrid Pele’s 11 children.

He hails from the villages of Lauli’i, American Samoa and he works at Aerospace Corporation.

According to the groom’s younger sister, her brother is a friendly person.

“He’s easygoing and loves fellowshipping with others. He’s very loyal to his family. He loves golf and that’s his hobby.”

The couple met in 2003 in Hawaii.

“The reason why they came from American Samoa to get married here is because Archbishop Alapati is their Godfather.

“My brother went to Chanel College at Moamoa in 1998 and during those times he was living with the Archbishop and when they decided to take their relationship to the next step they wanted Archbishop to be the one to marry them.”

Taulapapa Marie Sofai is 34. She is the youngest amongst five brothers and children of Eneliko and Limasene Saofai.

She hails from the village of Satala and Manu’a American Samoa. She is a teacher by profession at Fagaitua High School.

The bride’s best friend and maid of honor Mua Lutu described Taulapapa Marie as a happy person.

“She’s easygoing and always happy,” said Ms. Lutu. “Even during the wedding preparation she wasn’t even stressed and I guess it’s because she is marrying her best friend.

“These two have been lovebirds for more than ten years and I am just happy that she found the love of her life.”

Following the official ceremony the reception was held at the Robert Louis Stevenson Museum at Vailima.
