A 29-year-old man from the village of Lefagaoali'i and Foaluga in Savai'i has been charged with murder.

It follows the death of a 22-year-old male from the village of Safotu last week.

Police Spokesperson, Su’a Muliaga Tiumalu, said the accused and the deceased were having drinks at the Liusuavai Bar at Safotu when the incident happened.

“They were having drinks there on Saturday night and they ended up having an argument,” said Su’a.

“The 22-year-old was taken to the hospital and he died on that same night.

“There were no injuries on the decease’s body but just a scratch on his forehead.

“The accused is being charged with murder and he’s being held in custody to wait for his court appearance.

“The body of the deceased will undergo a post mortem to determine the cause of death. It is not yet confirmed when the accused will appear in court.”

The second incident involves a 24-year-old woman from Anoamaa who took her own life.

Su’a said the deceased is married.

“The incident occurred last week and reports say there was a dispute between the deceased and her husband and as a result she took her life.”
