Resort quiet on shark attack incident
The owners of the Aga Reef Resort at Lalomanu are yet to issue any official comments about the shark attack on a teenage tourist last week.
Evan Campbell was in Samoa with his parents and two brothers and was bitten by a shark while surfing on 5 November.
Speaking from Australia, his father, Hamish Campbell, said the unexpected incident made their vacation short.
"We were thankful even though Evan had been attacked by a shark, but he was thankful that he is still alive and recovering well," Campbell said.
"I hope this incident will not be repeated at the beautiful seas of Aga Reef Resort," he added.
Attempts to try and contact the owners of Aga Resort about the incident were unsuccessful. The staff have been taking messages and have not returned any calls as promised.
However, some village women representatives have voiced their concerns about the incident and said that the resort should not take this lightly and should make other tourists there aware of the situation.
Faamomoe Aiatele said this should be made known for the safety of other visitors, especially this time of the year.
"This will not put a bad image on their resort, but this is to avoid incidents like these in the future," Aiatele said.
Sui Tamaitai agrees that the resort should make this known to other tourists.
"If it's not safe anymore for swimming and surfing there, then there should be a notice from the resort to the tourists," she said.
She said during this time of the year, people love to visit Samoa, and it is the community's responsibility to make sure that these visitors are safe.
