Pacific Climate Warriors to present Declaration on Climate Change at COP23

11 October 2017

For the last couple of months the Pacific Climate Warriors have travelled through different island nations and collected support for this declaration in the form of signatures and an online campaign called #haveyoursei which are a series of personal stories of how climate change have impacted people’s homes.

Well known Pacific Climate Warrior activist, Brianna Fruen encouraged her online networks to sign the declaration and spread the message in a status post

“Climate change is so much more than graphs, stats and negotiations. It's the farmers struggling with drought, families catching little to no fish, villages losing sacred land and so so much more.

It's time to stand up against climate change and have your say/sei! #HaveYourSei and sign the declaration to join the movement.

True power is not held in an Oval Office but in the hands of the woke masses.”

According to the Pacific Climate Warriors official statement online,

We are calling for world leaders to commit to building a better, more just world for ourselves and for generations to come. Climate change is real and impacting now, and it’s imperative that we stand up for the Pacific, and the global community, and act now to avoid further climate catastrophe. This COP should be about the people, not the profits and the polluters.

We call on the world to:

End the era of fossil fuels and move to 100% renewable energy.

Support the immediate delivery of finance needed for countries already facing irreversible loss and damage.

Kick the big polluters out of the climate talks.

Do what is needed to limit warming to 1.5°C.

The Declaration is available here (www.haveyoursei.org) and can be signed online. The Website also features stories from around the world of how people are having a say on climate change and the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change process
