The Ministry of Police spokesperson Su’a Muliaga Tiumalu has confirmed that the man found dead behind Samoa Commercial Bank died after a dispute with his wife.

He said the deceased was a 46-year-old father, from Vaitele-Fou and Toamua Uta.

He was found dead behind the Samoa Commercial Bank at the Taufusi market around 8:30pm on Wednesday last week.

“Our investigation revealed that differences between the deceased and his wife drove the deceased to [suicide],” said Su’a.

Investigations are still continuing.

Su’a raised concerns about the rising number of suicide cases reported to the Ministry this year.

He said their records show a significant number of suicides this year, resulting from disputes with spouses.

Su’a said between April and May 2015, three suicides came about after disputes between spouses.

Another case was recorded in July, one attempted suicide after an argument, as well as the most recent incident.
