Hard life without running water

The struggle of not having running water is a huge burden for a family at Nofoali’i.

Mr. Siaosi was on his way home after collecting food for his pigs from the coastal families in his village when the Village Voice caught up with him.

Father of five, 58-year-old Moe Okenai Siaosi from the village of Nofoali’i said life has been hard because there is no running water at his place.

“My water was disconnected in the beginning of the year because I couldn’t pay off my water bill arrears,” he told the Village Voice team yesterday.

“We all know the role of water in our lives, so it is very hard living without it.”

“Water is a basic need and we must have water in order to survive.”

He said the cost of living is quite expensive, but there is nothing we can do about it.

“Well we can’t just go and tell the retailers that their prices are high compared to other retailer’s stores.”

“The only thing we can do is find something to do, get a job or even work our plantations to cope with that.”

Mr. Siaosi did say that food is not a problem for him and his family.

“I have five children of my own and three of them are working and staying with me here in my place.”

“The other two are married and have families of their own,but my three children here are supporting our family financially.”

“I also support our family through our plantation that I am working and keeping my pigs for family obligations.”

The main problem for Mr. Siaosi, is not being able to access water in his home.

“I really need a water tank.”

“A water tank would ease the burden of having to collect water from my neighbours and my  families in the coastal area.”
