The feeling was bitter sweet for the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (M.N.R.E.) yesterday.

The occasion was to allow them to bid farewell to the outgoing Chief Executive Officer, Suluimalo Amataga Penaia and welcome the new boss, Ulu Bismarck Tamati Crawley.

The ceremony was held at the E.F.K.S. hall with hundreds of employees in attendance.

Minister of M.N.R.E, Fiame Naomi Mata'afa, spoke on behalf of the government to thank Suluimalo for all the hard work he has done.

“On behalf of the government, cabinet ministers and everyone here today, we would like to take this special opportunity to thank you very much Sulu,” Fiame said.

“For when one door closes another opens and we wish you all the best for your future endeavours.

Suluimalo acknowledged everyone who have helped him along the way.

“From the bottom of my heart, thanks for all the efforts and the support that you’ve shown in the last three years.”

The ceremony also welcomed the new Chief Executive Officer, Ulu Bismarck Crawley.

The appointment of Ulu was endorsed by Cabinet last week.

“I am very humbled and honoured to be chosen as Chief Executive Officer of the M.N.R.E. for the next three years,” Ulu told the Samoa Observer.

“Whatever plans that the government directs me to work on in the next three years, I will give it my best.

“Yes, there will be challenges along the way, but they make us stronger everyday and prepare us for the future.”

Ulu said he is excited to be serving the people of Samoa.
