The E.F.K.S. and Tax Law

17 July 2018

Dear Editor,

There are a couple of enthralling things about the views of the E.F.K.S. Secretary and apparently those of the E.F.K.S. Council of Elders and the issue of the E.F.K.S. Faifeau’s to pay tax.

Firstly the disclaimer by the E.F.K.S. Secretary that the E.F.K.S. does not employ the E.F.K.S. ‘Faifeau’s. If that is the case, then why is the E.F.K.S. Secretary and Church Elders telling the E.F.K.S. Faifeaus’ not to pay tax?

It is the E.F.K.S. congregations that ‘employ’ the Faifeaus’(Fai le feagaiga ma le Faifeau)  and it is the congregations that pay for the ‘work’ of the Faifeaus’ (Tama ole Galuega) through their ‘Alofa’

Secondly the use of the biblical scriptures and their interpretations by the E.F.K.S. Secretary and Church Elders to compel the Faifeau’s to defy the tax law of Samoa appears to be a clear and obvious  desecration of God’s third commandment – ‘Thou shall not use the name of the Lord thy God in vain.’
