Financial demands too much

Dear Editor,

The church has become a burden to Samoans living abroad.

We grew up in church. Throughout every stage of our lives, church became a priority over family needs. Most Samoans abroad have given up basic necessity for everyday life to support the church. The pastors have enriched their lives and family on the back of those beliefs.

Most Samoans born abroad have turned their back on Samoa and church due to financial demands. Those who live by "Give what you can" are looked upon as weak minded.

The Bible teaches us to take care of family first.

Somehow, it's church 1st, 2nd and 3rd.

All Samoan churches across the world contribute to the main church in Samoa. Perhaps they can loan the money to new churches abroad to start new church. Provided the new pastor meets certain criteria. It is sad to see our people suffer without day-to-day necessities due to financial demands from the church.

I maybe wrong on this but look no further than our own community abroad to see the struggle that comes with being a member of the church.
