The woman and her bones

Do you feel the earth would be kinder if Adam was Eve instead?

When I look at the children of the streets, I feel sorrow only.

There is not a bone in a loving mother which does not ache for the grief upon any child. I miss my own mother like I miss the rain.

I see through my eyes of missing her that the world lacks the love of a mother too.

The world is dying within. It seems to lack luster, and poise. It seems to ache for something that has no end to grief. When we are buried in grief, I realize, pain becomes a friend too.

But I think of my daughters, the way their hair flows in the wind, and their generous smiles. I hold those things like the child in the moon is within me.

The blessings of a mother are abundant. There is never boredom, only passion, if we are true to ourselves as women, as daughters, as sisters and as mothers even. The wholeness of a woman is a quiet courage, did you know?

When a woman commits to happiness, she takes up half the planet with it, because boldness is made of women bones. But we are soft things too. When we break, what wide river will hold us when we erupt like waterfalls?

“I could surrender my soul” are words of a song. It reminds of a mother’s secret agony, of love and a straining rescue from a deep loneliness.

Yes, mothers can be lonely too.

But if we love like mothers, we are sacrificial, we are giving without expecting, we are filled with compassion and we lead from within, and in our strengths, we empower truth and prosperity. Mothers are natural lovers as they know no limits to giving unconditionally.

We live in an increasingly hateful world. A motherly president of some powerful nation would understand what that means for the poor child on the street.

He would feel the crack in the sky from the breaking of the poor child’s heart. He would reach out to caress his tired feet, and stop all progress for the sake of trees. He would, despite his busy schedule, believe in you and me.

For a mother knows that a creative child is more than one can ask for in a dark world like this.

I hope for Samoa that it finds and embraces her femininity sooner than later.

I wish for Samoa to embrace compassion with grace as a loving mother, wife and sister would.

I hope that when the day is done, we realize from her toes to her head, the real essence of a woman’s bones. For only then will our children aspire to better things ahead.
