WHITE FRIENDS

By Neueli Mauafu 28 November 2016, 12:00AM

When I go to school

I’m a different man

And by different, I mean

By the way I talk

Food I eat

Attitude shown

My walk and stance

Conversations of weekend concerts

Hook-ups

Drink ups

Party at my place

That sort of stuff

Sushi dates

My stomach isn’t use to it

Too bloody expensive

I’m not even full from it

Fancy clothes and necessities

Living the independent life

I’m not brown anymore

I AM WHITE

When I go home

I am a different man

A type of different

That none of my white mates understand

Conversations like

“Pass me the knife,

so I can open the Pisupo can”

Hook-ups at youth practise

Choir practise and church

Loud laughter and jam sessions

Jokes that hurt (don’t be offended)

Long evening prayers

Hymns that are off tune

Lectures that somehow benefit my life

Just agree and nod

Even when you feel its not true

My dear white friends

Please understand my absence to our drink ups

Just know that I’m busy

Busy with personal stuff
