CROSSROADS

By Jackie Fa’asisila 02 October 2016, 12:00AM

At every new bend in the road

Or choice of turns at a crossroad

I stop and wonder

Where we are

Where we have been

Where we might go

The road has been long and winding

Through sweet meadows

Rolling plains

Gentle grasslands

We’ve survived sojourns in dry deserts

Climbed mountains steep

Often without looking back

For fear of falling forever

Into to the void of emptiness

That would encompass us

If ever our ways were to part

I think too about who we were

Young, Idealistic

Wanting to end war, prejudice and hate

Make the world a better place

For children you never had

We chose different roads

But our paths intersected once again

We found sweetness in the meadows

Of renewed friendship

Joy in gentle winds that touched

The grasslands

Bountiful rain drenched our spirits

There were uphill struggles

Downhill slopes

New crossroads
