Overcoming the odds for the love of family

Every person has a part to play in providing for their family.

For Jeff Lio Apelu, 28-years-old from Fagalii, he has two roles.

He works at Vaitele to make some money for his family.

When he is not at work, he is fishing. All this he does for love.

“I’m the only one of my family working,” he said.

“When I have time I go fishing. That’s what I’m doing today, I just get my gear and I go.

“I don’t sell it, this is for my family because no one has to go and sell because all of my children are in school.”

Caring for family is Jeff’s priority.

“My family is very easy to take care of because there are only four of us,” he said.

“We don’t have a plantation, I depend on the sea to help out.

“We know very well the cost of living is expensive but I try very hard to provide for my family because no one works, it’s just myself.”

School fees are heavy on his mind.

“This is hard for me especially I’m the only one providing for my family. Sometimes I feel tired and don’t feel motivated but I have no choice. I stop trying and my family will surely fail.”
