Graduation joy for Maritime graduates
Students of the Samoa Shipping Corporation’s Maritime Academy celebrated sweet success on Tuesday.
At the E.F.K.S Hall, twenty students received certificates for onboard deck rating and onboard engine rating.
The graduates had completed a one-year-course, which looked at the theory and practical side of their work.
Penetekoso Lauano was named the Overall Top Deck student while Charles Faletutulu was the Overall Onboard Engine top student.
Mr. Lauano was a grateful young man. He said they have had to overcome a lot to be where they are today.
“This is the beginning of another chapter for us,” he said.
“We’re looking forward to working hard for a better Samoa especially for our families.
“This is not the end; we’ll continue to look for opportunities in the future to further our studies on maritime if any doors open for us.”
But there was more at the graduation.
Seventy-two Samoa Shipping Corporation seafarers were awarded certificates on Able Bodied Seafarer (22), Able Bodied Engineering (5), Tanker Familiarisation (55) and International ship and Port Security (7).
General Manager of Samoa Shipping Corporation, Papali’i Willie Nansen, congratulated all the students.
