Bluesky Samoa won the Paopao Cup during a Business House Paddling Regatta held yesterday at Vaisigano.

The regatta was a fundraiser by the Samoa Outrigger Canoe Association (S.O.C.A).

Ten businesses participated in the event and each team had to pay $300 entry fee.

Moana Schreckenberg, S.O.C.A’s Secretary said the event was one of the main fundraising events they have.

“Our aim is to raise funds so that we can send a paddling team overseas,” said Ms. Schreckenberg.

“There is a long-distance paddling competition in Tahiti next year, and we are hoping to send a team for that tournament and that is why we’ve been raising funds.

“Obviously, it will cost a lot of money to send a team overseas hence why we have these fundraisings.” The Secretary said they are waiting for the organizing committee of the regatta in Tahiti to confirm the divisions and then they will look at which team to take.

The competition yesterday was divided into two parts.

The main category was the Paopao Cup, and the Bluesky Samoa again won the trophy for that category. Second place went to Max Fitness Gym, Mahealani’s Static Graphics came third and M&J Ah Fook came fourth.

The second category was the Ama Cup.

The Samoa Observer team took first place, Digicel Samoa team came second and the UN team came third.  The prize giving was held last night and the event was sponsored by Vailima Alo Paopao.
