Let’s have a free and fair election

Dear Editor,

Re: Unregistered voter convicted and fined

What about the PM’s village?

Do voters in the PM’s village still have to register even though the PM stands alone in his district unopposed and already guaranteed the winner?

That is what happened to me when I registered to vote for the district of Vailele. It was a waste of time because someone was already chosen by the matais and no one else was allowed to stand as an alternative choice.

Samoa has an unfair and undemocratic election, which only feeds corruption.

Let’s make the next Samoa election a fair and democratic election and allow any Samoan who wants to enter parliament to put their names forward and let the villagers register and decide by vote.

Samoa should have an election that is 100% democratic and not allow a few “special” ones like the PM to walk in government without a single vote and control all of the government’s finances.

A fair election is just one but very important step in removing corruption from government.
