Yesterday was a day of celebration for Samoa Primary School, thanks to some great gifts from Australia.

Twelve computers, a projector, electronic whiteboard and four iPads were part of 20ft container full of resources gathered by four Christian schools in Queensland Australia and sent to Samoa.

The donation was organised by Australian teacher, Don Waterson, who personally brought over the gifts with his team from Australia.

“I have been a teacher for about 50 years. I love teaching and I love students; it is my passion,” Mr. Waterson told the school.

“I was a headmaster for many years. Why do we bring these goods to you? Samoa has given me so much.

“My daughter has gotten a husband with a very good standard of living, I have got three wonderful grandchildren and I have been coming here for over 20 years and the Samoans have been very friendly.

“Samoa has given me a lot. So I thought to myself, it’s time to give something back to Samoa.”

Mr. Waterson then explained how the resources were brought together.

“So because I am a teacher and I know a lot of teachers in Australia, I phoned up four Christian schools and said some of the students in Samoa need the resources,” he said.

“So they gave some resources. We collected a big 20ft container and brought it over to you. Last week I came over to the Samoa Primary school and went over to the staff room.

“I had a look at the school and said to the teachers and I asked them what they needed and they said 12 computers.”

Mr. Waterson also mentioned that he will be doing checkups to make sure that the school will make the most of the resources they received.

Equipment was also given to a number of government schools in both Upolu and Savai'i.
