The not-for profit organisation Brown Girl Woke (B.G.W) has donated food and much-needed items to the Home for the Elderly at Mapuifagalele on Friday.

The donation is part of B.G.W’s “USD$20 feeds a family of five people” campaign.

The programme has been running for over a year now and with the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, many have not been able to recover fully and the programme offers these families support.

Donations presented to the Home of the Eldelry at Mapuifagalele on Friday included adult diapers, sanitisers, gloves and food such as 40 pound bags of rice, flour, and sugar.

The organisation presented the donations to the Sister-in-charge of the home, Sister Maria Francis Pale on Friday.

The founder of B.G.W Maluseu Doris Tulifau stated that they have been giving donation to elderly home since the measles and COVID-19 because the elderly are also most vulnerable.

Maluseu stated that many people do not realise that Samoa has an elderly home and that Mapuifagalele also needs donations.

She said that people and businesses usually wait until Mapuifagalele does a calls for assistance instead of donating monthly.

“We always ask our overseas donors for adult diapers , sanitizers, cleaning supplies for elderly home,” she said.

In May last year, it was reported that the “USD$20 feeds a family of five people” programme had raised over US$400 (T$1,106) in the first month and assisted over 60 families.

The donations included in this programme are usually 20-pound rice bag, a box of tinned fish, soap, laundry soap, flour, sugar, four boxes of milk, a box of chicken, towels, sheets, and mosquito coils.

Earlier this year the organisation had assisted families affected by the floods in Maagaiagi through a donation thanks to the Kingdom Souljahz Car Club in Hawaii.
