The Kukama team of Tufulele has defeated village rivals Metotisi Tufulele as the men’s independence cricket competition continues.

The tournament started on Tuesday at the Garden Oval at Tuanaimato and attracted a number of teams.

Kukama were the first to bat and scored runs in the match that totaled 36 points with Metotisi unable to overcome the deficit and lost to their village rivals 31-36 runs.

Metotisi player Perosi Taupo, who was previously in the Manu Samoa 7s training squad, was the anchor for the team and scored most of the runs.

While 13-year-old Vaigafa Tautalaaso was able to end Kukama’s run of 10 wickets with his bowling.

Innings, which are brought to a close when the batting side runs out of wickets, are over when 10 of the 11 batsmen are bowled out.

Kukama had some great bowlers and batsmen which was why Metotisi couldn’t overcome the deficit to win the last match of the day.

Metotisi lost two matches on Tuesday while Kukama won all their matches.

Kukama is having a great start to their Independence competition. The competition is set to go on for about two weeks.

Both teams are in Pool A, together with Vailele A, Apia West, Auso 2, and Fusi Safata.
